The Manager, Military Assistance Team oversees the Military Assistance Team and the processes involved. The Manager must also assist to process military tuition assistance forms, submits veteran’s benefits data to the VA, and processes civilian tuition assistance forms within the targets service level performance goals set by the Department. Assist military and veteran student population in regards to available benefits. The Manager, Military Assistance team will also perform administrative functions for the department and assigned Specialist’s. Performs research on relevant student and departmental issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with and oversees the team processing of all military and veterans educational assistance programs to include: military and civilian tuition assistance, veterans benefits (all chapters), and APUS tuition benefits.
  • Ensure Specialists continuously maintain or exceed targeted Service Level Performance Goals as established by Military Assistance Management.
  • Supervision of Military Specialists to include but not limited to reviewing timesheets, time off requests, preparing 90-day and year-end reviews, providing employee goals, handling disciplinary actions, and managing workflow.
  • Ability to successfully delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members to maintain Team targeted Service Level Performance Goals.
  • Establishes schedules and milestones for training/employee development.
  • Leads departmental research into student and other issues.
  • Daily reporting to Management progress of military benefit processing and promptly notify of issues that may arise.
  • Provide resources for military and veteran students to receive educational benefits.
  • Lead Senior Specialists in prioritizing and organizing departmental work to be completed within established deadlines.
  • Manages (or assists with) external compliance reviews, document preparation, and internal file review.
  • Interact with other departments to achieve departmental goals.
  • Certify all chapters of VA benefits, report progress of veteran and military students, and maintain communication with VA and military representatives.
  • Leads continued improvement of the Military Assistance Department through active participation in meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by Management, to support our staff and students.

  • Ability to interact with students and staff in a professional manner; handle student escalations in a manner in which to diffuse the situation.
  • Ability to understand, master, promote, and apply all Military Assistance Policy & Procedure in daily functions.
  • Ability to multi-task & work independently.
  • Ability to come up with innovative ways to maintain processing levels in a fast growth environment and add input to help team efficiencies.
  • Ability to quickly learn and master new skills and processes associated with processing of military and veteran’s benefits, proficiently apply them to the job tasks, and ensure team can also apply them to job tasks.
  • Ability to lead & schedule training instructor for new personnel and staff needing additional training and set key milestones for training success.
  • Proficient computer literacy, demonstrated proficiency in all departmental use software applications & MS Office skills.
  • Ability to adapt to and solve problems in an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to be self-accountable and hold subordinates accountable; expected to put forth extra effort to ensure productivity.
  • Ability to lead by example; be a model for all Military Assistance Specialists.
  • Ability to problem solve and use analytical skills to address complicated issues.
  • Must have exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ensure departmental and individual production goals are met on a monthly basis with an emphasis on quality output while maintaining quantity.
  • Must be a team player, show respect, promote a positive attitude, and a sense of camaraderie amongst specialists. Must be able to successfully collaborate with others to complete tasks.
  • Maintain flexibility in work requirements.
  • Assist Management to identify needs for IT work orders and assist with UAT for completed work orders.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent communication skills; verbally and in writing.
  • Require minimum supervision and maintain a strong attendance record with no performance counseling’s.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and improvement of the Military Assistance Department.

Experience:

  • 2+ year’s experience within Military Assistance Team
  • Previous exemplary performance as a Senior Military Assistance Specialist preferred.
  • Demonstrated mastery of all Veterans and Military education programs required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is required.
  • Desired individual is detail-orientated, flexible, innovative, a team player, self-accountable, able to lead by example, demonstrates strong initiative with the ability to work independently in an ever-changing, fast paced environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required or continued progression toward required education.
